The Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms was appointed Minister of State in the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Department for Education, on 8 July 2024. He currently holds the Government post of Minister for Social Security and Disability. He was previously the Work and Pensions Select Committee Chair.
Sir Stephen Timms has been an MP continually since 9 June 1994 and held a number of ministerial posts under the previous Labour Government including Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
Before entering Parliament, Sir Stephen Timms worked in the telecommunications industry for fifteen years, first for Logica and then for Ovum. He managed Ovum’s telecommunications reports business until his election in 1994.
