Gail is the Chief Medical Advisor for the Department for Work and pensions (DWP). Having held a portfolio career covering academia at the University of Nottingham, clinical policy at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and in medical leadership including roles such as the Chief Medical Officer for the National institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) she moved to DWP in 2023

Gail leads the DWP clinical policy team, working closely with colleagues in the Department of Health and Social Care through the Joint Work and Health Unit. She is the DWP Senior responsible officer for clinical governance and the Responsible Officer for DWP.

Alongside her clinical policy work Gail  is a practising GP, an honorary Associate Professor at Nottingham University, a nationally elected Council member at the RCGP and trustee for Sinfonia Viva, an orchestra based in the East Midlands.
