Dr Wendy Chaplin

Dr Wendy Chaplin is a psychologist and research fellow specialising in behaviour change, chronic pain, and digital health interventions. Her research focuses on improving patient outcomes by understanding how behaviours among both individuals and healthcare professionals shape health experiences and care delivery.

Wendy completed her PhD examining the bidirectional relationship between musculoskeletal pain and frailty in ageing populations, contributing important insights into how these conditions interact over time. Building on this foundation, she has conducted systematic reviews exploring the effectiveness of digital interventions for chronic pain, helping to inform evidence-based approaches to scalable healthcare solutions.

Her current work centres on a mixed-methods cluster-randomised feasibility trial evaluating a digital intervention designed to support employees self-managing chronic pain in the workplace. This research integrates psychological theory with occupational advice to develop practical, accessible support tools. She also has expertise in intervention fidelity and has assessed the quality of occupational therapy support delivery within trials.

Methodologically, Dr Chaplin is experienced in advanced quantitative analysis, including confirmatory factor analysis, and in framework development for intervention design and reporting. Her work aims to translate behavioural science into real-world impact, improving patient-centred care for people with long -term health conditions.
