Martie van Tongeren

Martie van Tongeren is professor in Occupational and Environmental Health and director of the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), within the School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester. The COEH delivers the largest post-graduate degree in Occupational Medicine in the UK, as well as a wide-ranging doctoral programme in Occupational and Environmental Health. He is the Health theme lead for two virtual interdisciplinary research institutes within the University of Manchester: the Manchester Environmental Research Institute (MERI) and the Thomas Ashton Institute (TAI) for Risk and Regulatory Research (https://www.ashtoninstitute.ac.uk/).  His research expertise includes occupational health, epidemiology, environmental risk, risk assessment, and exposure assessment.  He is currently the PI for The Health and Occupation Research network in the UK, as well as a similar scheme in Ireland.  He also is the thematic lead within the PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study, led by the Health and Safety Executive, focussing on the impact of COVID-19 on workers and workplaces.
