Monica Monaghan
Professor Monaghan is a Consultant Cardiologist at The South West Acute Hospital Western Health Social Care Trust and Honorary Associate Professor at Royal College Surgeons Ireland. She is a Fellow of Royal College Physicians UK and European Society of Cardiology.
Her specialist interest is multimodality cardiac imaging that includes cardiac MRI; CT coronary angiogrgraphy; TAVI planning; transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and DSE in ischaemia assessment. She has subspecialist interest in valvular and structural heart disease, inherited cardiomyopathies and adult congenital heart disease.
Prof Monaghan received her medical degree with distinction from Queens University and trained in Northern Ireland before completing a cardiac MRI fellowship at Barts Heart Centre London.
Prof Monaghan has a PhD in molecular Biology. She continues her roles in academia and is associate Dean for Queens University Belfast and partakes in clinical trials and has published her research in peer reviewed medical journals and presents her findings at leading international cardiology conferences.
