Prof Martie van Tongeren

Prof van Tongeren is an occupational and environmental health epidemiologist with nearly 35 years of experience in areas such as exposure and risk assessment and occupational disease epidemiology.  He leads an interdisciplinary team at the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Manchester, to provide MSc level training for Occupational Physicians and Occupational Hygienists.  In addition, he leads or contributes to a wide range of interdisciplinary research on occupational and environmental determinants of health.  Since 2017, he has been the Principal Investigator for The Health and Occupation Research network (THOR), collecting data on occupational disease in the UK and Ireland in order to identify trends and identify potential sentinel cases.  He is a member of the HSE’s Workplace Health Expert Committee (WHEC).
