Gary Macfarlane

Gary Macfarlane has held the Chair in Epidemiology (Clinical) at The University of Aberdeen since 2005 and previously held the same position from 1999 at the University of Manchester. He is an Honorary Consultant in the Department of Public Health in NHS Grampian and is the Deputy Clinical Lead for Pain at NHS Research Scotland. He is a member of the Health and Safety Executive Scientific Quality Advisory Group.  Professor Macfarlane is Director of the Versus Arthritis/Medical Research Council Centre for Musculoskeletal Health. His research focusses on Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMD). He currently has active grants worth £11.1m. Professor Macfarlane is a Chartered Statistician of the Royal Statistical Society and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine and Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
